Northern Hemisphere 2022 Public Vote

The Northern Hemisphere 2022 Public vote is now on! Which of these 16 finalists do you think is the best? To temper the patriotic voting we haven’t put the flags with the pictures, but if you read the text you’ll find out where each contender is from.

Marcus from Canada enters this very interesting Moon shot, taken with a Skywatcher Startravel 120/600mm Refractor and Canon T3i camera mounted on an Heq5 Pro using Astrophotography Tool. Then processed in Siril and Photoshop. Awesome!

Maciej from Germany has our second Moon shot with this engaging crescent. Using an Orion 8“ f/6 Newtonian and Canon R camera it combines 15 photos of the moon with correct exposure time and 15 overexposed for the Earthshine. Processed in Photoshop. Stunning!

The Cosmic Beat from Josep from Spain is a fantastic capture of the Heart Nebula, IC 1805. Image taken with William Optics redcat51, l-enhance filter equiped with zwo eaf and lacerta mgen-3 autoguider. Camera is qhy268c and ioptron cem26 mount. Final image made from a stack of 9 photos about 600″ each taken with sharpcap 4.0 64 bits in high gain mode, 30 gain, 20 offset. Feeling it!

The Milky Way in French Vosges Mountains is Vincent’s entry. Taken with a Canon EOS 6D with Astro Modification and Sigma ART 24mm F1.4 DG HSM lens. It is a stitch of 50 frames (8s, F2.2, ISO3200) to make a panoramic image and processed with Photoshop. Superb!

Our second last 16 French image is the Spaghetti Nebula from Yann. It is a HOORVB mosaic of 2 tiles taken with Takahashi FSQ106 EDX4 with 645-QE super reducer and Asi 2600MM Pro camera with Barilla (Antilla) RGB + H and O 3nm filters on an Eq6r-pro mount using an Altaïr 60/225 guide + asi 290mm mini. Acquisition was with N.I.N.A + Phd2 and processing: with Siril + PixInsight + Photoshop Pre-processing on Siril, Starless on each filter, processing and mixing in PixInsight with some cosmetic adjustment on Photoshop. Magnificent!

The Bubble and the Claw is from Chris in the UK. Taken with a starlite Xpress sxvr H694 mono camera and astrodon Ha &Oiii filters attached to a William Optics gt81 frac mounted on a Sky Watcher eq6-r. The processing was stacked and blended in Maxim DL, star removal in Stratton and processed in Photoshop. Steller!

Zlakto from Croatia took his Dark Nebula Barnard with a Tecnosky SLD 152/1216 Apo Triplet (reduced to 972 mm) with a Moravian G2 4000 camera on Gemini G53F mount. 72 x 600” exposures and processed on Pixinsight. Always good to see entries from previous winners! Dark and deep!

Last year’s Northern Hemisphere winner was Lorand from Hungary and he is back this year with this beautiful Horsehead Nebula. Taken on a 300/1200 Newtonian with a Fornax 52 mount and QHY 183M + QHY 268C camera. Sparkling!

The first of two Indian entries is from Basudeb’s with The Great Orion Region. Using Telescopes Live’s Takahashi FSQ-106EDX4, FLI PL16083, Paramount MX+, Astrodon Ha (3nm), SII (3nm), OIII (3nm) filters. Processing was then with Deep Sky Stacker, Pixinsight and Photoshop. Expansive!

Samit and Soumyadeep from India captured Ariane V carrying JWST passing by Sculptor Galaxy with a Nikon D5600 & Samyang 135. Impressive!

Our 3rd moon image is Matteo from Italy’s Mineral Moon. Taken on GSO a 0.20m and Nikon D60 at f: 1000 mm and f/5 on a Sky-Watcher EQ-5 Pro Deluxe motorized mount. Mesmerising!

Pavel from Mexico enters his HS-GO-O palette Monkey head, beard & mane nebula. Using a Skywatcher Esprit 100ED (550mm, F5.5) with Atik 460ex mono @ -10°C on an Orion Atlas EQ-G mount and StarlightXpress FW + OAG + Altair GPcam2 Captured and processed with NINA, PHD, PixInsight. Antlia Pro filters: G = 64 x 60″ S2 = 70 x 600″ Ha = 124 x 600″ O3 = 64 x 600″. Colourful!

A Jupiter Sized Prominence is Michael from Malaysia’s entry. Taken with a Lunt LS152T Ha Telescope, Tele Vue 3x Barlow and QHY5L-II-M Camera and processed and stacked with autoStakkkert!3, Wavelet adjustment with Registax 6, Enhancement and false color with Photoshop 2020. Sizzling!

Our first USA entry is from John with the Great Orion Nebula and Running Man Nebula. Taken with a ZWO ASI071MC Pro Cooled CMOS Imager at Prime Focus of an Orion EON ED80, a 500mm doublet at f/6.25 with a nPAE Filter Drawer holding a light pollution Filter. Guided with a ZWO ASI174mm at Prime Focus of an Orion 80mm short tube refractor & PHD2 all Mounted on a Losmandy G-11 w/Gemini2 w/Pegasus Advanced Powerbox. Blazing!

The second USA entry is from Marcin with his Star Gate picture. Taken on a Nikon D800 camera this was processed in Photoshop. The next dimension!

The third USA entry is from Warren at Star Castle Observatory with his Psychedelic Crab Nebula. Using a Celestron 8″ SCT orange with imaging Cameras: ZWO ASI 1600MM-Cool and Baader SII 3nm · Baader Ha 3nm · Baader OIII 3nm filters all atop an Ioptron CEM 120 mount. Processed on Adobe Lightroom, AstroPixel Processor and Adobe Photoshop. Tripping!

    This is a very special affair. You don’t get to shoot in a fair weather if you wish. And combining the earthly treasure JWST with the galaxy is supurb.

    La Voie lactée dans les Vosges françaises est l’entrée de Vincent. Photo prise avec un Canon EOS 6D avec Astro Modification et un objectif Sigma ART 24 mm F1.4 DG HSM. Il s’agit d’un assemblage de 50 images (8s, F2.2, ISO3200) pour avoir une image panoramique et traitée avec Photoshop. Superbe!
